Positioning within buildings

Locating objects or containers is particularly difficult in large buildings or warehouses. GPS reception is usually unavailable, and indoor tracking of goods is not possible with this technology.

tepcon has the solution: By using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), precise positioning of less than 10 meters can be achieved. Objects can be reliably located, thus reducing material and container loss. Furthermore, transparent logistics processes with online feedback and daily status reports are created. The result is optimized turnaround times and reduced downtime.

The tepcon indoor tracking solution is based on a concept that minimizes the cost of setting up a seamless infrastructure. Since most of the devices are self-contained hardware, they are equipped with batteries. A battery life of at least 3-5 years is guaranteed.

How indoor tracking works

Indoor tracking is easy to implement, requiring little effort or costly installation. Its functionality can be broken down into four steps.

Location registration

Step 1: The building is equipped with BLE beacons. The beacons' positions are stored in the portal.

Continuous tracking

Step 3: The BLE beacons cyclically transmit their ID, which is received by nearby smartphones and gateways along with their signal strength. If the mobile beacons are read at the same time as the stationary beacons, they can be located at the stored location with an accuracy of +/- 20 meters.

Object registration

Step 2: The objects to be mobile and monitored are also equipped with BLE beacons and linked together in the portal.

Last-minute tracking

Step 4: In order to quickly identify the mobile objects on the last meter, the beacons can be controlled with the smartphone and emit an optical or acoustic signal.
